From St George’s Hall, cross William Brown Street and you’ll find yourself at two of Liverpool’s best free attractions side by side. Spend an hour or so in the Walker Art Gallery, then pop next door to the World Museum if you have younger ones in tow or simply fancy a stroll through natural history and world cultures.
Lunch: Bold Street
Head south on foot towards Bold Street. Liverpool’s most colourful and independent eating quarter. You’ll find everything from vegan cafés to proper pie shops. It’s a lively, welcoming part of the city with real local character.
Afternoon: The Albert Dock
After lunch, make your way to the Albert Dock, Liverpool’s iconic waterfront complex, and arguably the heart of the city’s tourist offer. Visit the Merseyside Maritime Museum and the International Slavery Museum (both free), then round off with a trip to The Beatles Story, the world’s largest permanent Beatles exhibition.
Evening: The Cavern Quarter
As evening falls, stroll up to Mathew Street and the legendary Cavern Club. There’s live music on every night of the week, and the surrounding streets are buzzing with pubs and restaurants. It’s the kind of evening that makes you realise just how special Liverpool’s nightlife really is.
Morning: Breakfast and Liverpool One
Start the day with breakfast at the hotel before heading out to Liverpool ONE, the city’s major open-air shopping destination. With over 170 retailers across a beautifully designed waterfront site, it’s easy to spend a good few hours browsing from well-known high-street names to more boutique finds.
Mid-Morning: Williamson Tunnels or Chinatown
For something a little different, book a tour of the Williamson Tunnels, an extraordinary Victorian-era underground labyrinth beneath the city streets. Alternatively, take a wander through Liverpool’s vibrant Chinatown, one of the oldest in Europe, and pick up a coffee or a snack along the way.
Afternoon: Sefton Park or Anfield
If the weather’s on your side, take a bus or short taxi ride to Sefton Park, a beautiful Victorian green space complete with a stunning Palm House glasshouse. Football fans, meanwhile, will want to head to Anfield for a stadium tour of Liverpool FC’s famous ground. Both are well worth the short journey out of the city centre.
Evening: Dinner and a Farewell Drink
Round off your weekend with dinner in one of Liverpool’s fantastic restaurants. The city has excellent options for every taste and budget. Head back to the hotel, pick up your luggage, and make your way to Lime Street Station feeling thoroughly well-rested and properly entertained.
